NEED

Posted by Dawn Dalton on 10:23 AM

I've never considered myself a literary writer.

Part of the reason is because I feel like the definition of "literary fiction" is somewhat obscure.

I have tremendous respect for writers who have the ability to string together line after line of poetic prose.

I'm not that girl.

But NEED is a different kind of book than my typical genre of choice. There are no werewolves, ghosts, demons or vampires...at least not in a typical sense. The story delves deeper into my character's psyche - her dreams, her wants. And the one thing she cannot have but desperately needs.

NEED is my BuNoWriMo project for June. Burrow Novel Writing Month is much like the annual November Novel Writing Month, but hosted by the Burrow writing group.

I'm keeping the story close to my chest for a while because I intend to finish the first draft of NEED in June. But I shared the plot (and yes, I PLOTTED this book...the whole thing...) with the talented Jessica Bell, who designed this amazing, perfect cover. She pretty much nailed its essence.

I've made it my desktop image and every time I look at it, I want to write. An effective muse, I'd say.

This is fabulous! Was SUCH a pleasure to do for you, hon :)

I could post an entire mini-blog here about literary fiction and my beef with the obtuseness of the genre (because I do and can write prose like that, but don't ever want to be pigeon-holed into that genre). However, yay for having a visual muse! I LOVE that cover. Jessica is awesome.

Sounds amazing!! Hope you'll share some soon. Best of luck with BU... I'm participating too, but haven't even finished my outline. Life is coming at me from all angles, right now. All good ones, though...

Oh...now THAT'S a cover to die for. ;) Can't wait to read it.

You never cease to amaze me....
