Prior to the year 2000, straight jackets may have been issued to paranoid parents who believed the urban legends of apples stuffed with pins or razors being passed out to naive trick-or-treaters.
But 13-years ago, these fears were confirmed when a Minneapolis man was charged after handing out mini chocolate bars packed with needles. Ouch!
Luckily, no one was seriously injured - and the event created an awareness frenzy that had parents double checking candy before allowing kids to dig in. (It also resulted in a sharp increase of candy theft...those tootsie rolls...)
While no other treat-tampering incidents have been reported as of late, steering clear of apples at Halloween isn't a bad idea. Unless you're bobbing for them, trying to pass off this doctor-approved fruit as a "treat" may be putting your personal safety at risk!
